Abel Mwenibanda is a financial inclusion and microfinance specialist with extensive experience in advancing economic empowerment for underserved communities across Malawi and beyond. His work focuses on strengthening financial literacy, expanding access to inclusive financial services, and supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). With a strong foundation in banking and financial services, he combines practical field experience with content development and training expertise to drive sustainable economic participation at the grassroots level.

His core expertise lies in financial inclusion and literacy development and microfinance systems and MSME capacity building, where he has led high-impact initiatives across multiple countries and institutions. As Lead Consultant at the Centre for Financial Inclusion and Literacy Consultancy (CFIL), Abel has designed and delivered financial and digital literacy programs, facilitated VSLA formation and linkages, and developed training materials adopted by organizations operating across Malawi, Kenya, Egypt, and Tanzania. His leadership in partnerships and program implementation has enabled the empowerment of hundreds of community groups, particularly women-led enterprises, while strengthening financial ecosystems at the local level.

Beyond program implementation, Abel is a published author of multiple financial literacy books and a recognized contributor to national and global discourse on financial systems, including contributions to World Bank research on credit access in Malawi. His experience as Country Director for the Global Fund for Widows further demonstrates his ability to lead large-scale, impact-driven programs targeting vulnerable populations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance and continues to play a strategic advisory role in designing inclusive, scalable financial solutions that drive economic resilience and growth.
