Our History

Kwela Development Fund was founded with a single purpose:
to unlock the economic potential of rural Malawi by providing accessible, affordable, and dignified financial services to underserved communities.

For years, rural entrepreneurs, especially women and youth struggled to access capital needed to expand their businesses or invest in productive assets. Traditional lenders were too far, too expensive, or too rigid. Kwela was created to change that.

Today, we serve rural groups and entrepreneurs working in:

• Clean Energy:  solar home systems, improved cookstoves
• Water Access:  borehole drilling & maintenance
• Agriculture: irrigation kits, cold storage, agro-inputs
• Rural Services: mobile money agents, bicycle taxis, micro-enterprises

Through responsible lending, enterprise development support, and community-driven programs, Kwela continues to transform livelihoods one village at a time.
