Lenard Kanthunzi is a highly experienced risk governance and compliance professional with over a decade of expertise in strengthening institutional resilience across Malawi’s financial and development sectors. He brings deep technical capability in enterprise risk management, operational risk, and regulatory compliance, with a consistent track record of designing and implementing frameworks that enhance decision-making, protect organizational value, and ensure regulatory alignment. His work focuses on building structured systems that integrate risk management into core business strategy and operations.

Lenard has demonstrated strong leadership in risk framework design and governance and operational risk and compliance management, driving transformation across leading financial institutions. In his current role as Enterprise Risk and Compliance Manager at the Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC), he leads enterprise-wide risk strategies that support private sector investment and development. Previously, at FDH Financial Holdings and Opportunity Bank Malawi, he strengthened risk management frameworks, implemented fraud and transaction monitoring systems, and established robust business continuity and disaster recovery mechanisms, delivering measurable improvements in risk visibility, control, and institutional performance.

Beyond systems, Lenard has played a critical role in embedding a strong risk culture within organizations by institutionalizing Risk Champions, Risk Control Self-Assessments, and governance-driven accountability structures. He has also led complex investigations, including high-value fraud cases resulting in successful recovery of funds and legal enforcement. He holds an MBA from the Malawi School of Government and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, positioning him as a strategic advisor capable of aligning governance, compliance, and operational excellence to support sustainable growth.
